What time do Shias pray? ›

The Shia acknowledge FIVE daily PRAYERS. However, they are allowed to pray them in THREE distinct TIMES, not five; the five prayers are: Fajr (Morning), Zuhr (Noon), `Asr (Afternoon), Maghrib (Sunset), and Isha (Night).

Shia religious practices, such as prayers, differ only slightly from the Sunnīs. While all Muslims pray five times daily, Shia Muslims have the option of combining Dhuhr with Asr and Maghrib with Isha', as there are three distinct times mentioned in the Quran.

Shi'a Muslims believe that Ali succeeded the Prophet Muhammad. Muslims have more freedom to combine certain prayers, such as the midday and afternoon prayers. Therefore they may only pray three times a day. Shi'a Muslims also often use natural elements when praying.

Following instruction from the Qur'an, Shia Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq stated that "prostration must be performed on pure earth or what grows on it, provided that it is not eaten or worn." For example, prostration on paper is permissible because it is made of natural elements grown on earth.

For Shiites, historically, their clergy discouraged Shiites from attending Friday prayers. According to them, communal Friday prayers with a sermon were wrong and had lapsed (along with several other religious practices) until the return of their 12th Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi.

There are some small differences between Shi'a and Sunni methods of prayer, although all of the core elements are the same. One of differences, as you pointed out, is that Shi'a Muslims do not fold their hands in prayer.

The main difference between Sunni and Shia Muslims is based on whether or not they believe that Prophet Muhammad explicitly designated a successor.

The pilgrimage to Mecca, known as hajj, is one of the pillars of Islam for both Sunnis and Shi'ites, but Shia have many other holy sites they make pilgrimages (ziyarat) to. Among them are Al-Baqi Cemetery near Medina, Cairo, in Egypt, Najaf and Karbala, in Iraq, and Qom and Mashhad, in Iran.

There are some differences on how Sunni and Shia Muslims celebrate Ramadan. Sunni Muslims break their fast at sunset, which is when the sun is no longer visible, but there is still light in the sky. Shia Muslims wait until all light has disappeared from the sky before they break their fast.

However, they frequently combine the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers by offering them consecutively during the time period defined by the start of Zuhr and the end of 'Asr. They also consider it permissible to combine the Maghrib and 'Isha prayers in a similar manner.

Shi'a scholars say that if Ameen is said with the intention of it being a part of Salat, then the prayer will be invalid. It is a foreign word and has nothing related to the Surah, or correct dhikrs mentioned as parts of the Salat. We are obliged to adhere to how the Prophet (s.a.w.) has taught us to pray.

Shia Ayatollahs Ali al-Sistani and Ali Khamenei believe there are no authoritative Islamic prohibitions on tattoos. The Quran does not mention tattoos or tattooing at all. Grand Ayatollah Sadiq Hussaini Shirazi ruled: "Tattoos are considered makruh (reprehensible but not forbidden).

Inter-marriages within Shia and Sunni sects are not unheard of, though some sectarian clerks and families prohibit it all together (Alatas 2022).

They have different calculations for all the prayer times. They even PRAY in another manner. For example, Sunnis pray two to three minutes after the sun is completely below the horizon, but Shias don't offer Maghrib salat until all bright warm colours, or redness in general, have disappeared.

The Qur-aan says eat and drink until the white thread of dawn is distinct from the black thread of night. By sunrise the white thread of dawn is long gone so one cannot eat until sunrise. One can only eat until the earliest timeframe for the Fajr salaah opens. Stop eating when Fajr Sadiq (dawn) until sunset.
