Wash and chop 8 purple potatoes, about 1 lb.

Place the potatoes in a large pot and pour enough cold water to cover the potatoes at least 1-2 inches.

Put the pan on the burner and cook on medium-highheat to bring to a boil.

Cook until the potatoes are fork tender, about 15 minutes.

Drain and return the pot back to the stove.

Add in hot milk, butter, and season with salt.

Using a potato masher, mash the potatoes until you reach the desired consistency.
