I’m a bit confused. The introduction mentions apples, candied ginger, pecans and maple syrup. I don’t see them in the recipe or the ingredients list. Can you clarify?

This was lovely. Made half a recipe for 2 people. Required 4 cups of good-quality commercial broth, and only 1/4 tsp salt. Otherwise, followed the recipe exactly. Keeper.

Where and how are these ingredients incorporated? They are not in the actual recipe. "Spend the money for Grade A maple syrup and organic pecans. And spend the time to find the candied ginger, which adds a bright, floral taste to the final dish."

Zaphelps, the listed ingredients are include in the recipe for the maple-glazed porkchops, apples, chopped pecans and candied ginger recipe that is mentioned in the last line of the recipe overview.

Very easy and delicious recipe, thank you.I particularly appreciated how to preserve one's hands from the risk of boiling polenta!

FYI to all the people about the other ingredients: the apples, pecans, and maple syrup are for the pork chop recipe they suggest to serve together.

This was incredibly delicious! I found that I had to add quite a bit of extra stock as the polenta cooked, about a full cup. It also took 15 minutes rather than 10 to fully cook. This recipe will go into regular side dish rotation.

If you select "Off The Menu" that's where you will find reference to apples.

Wonderful recipe. Delicious. Followed the recipe as written and it turned out perfectly. So good.

Made with the pork chops and it was decadent. Doubled the butter, added a splash of milk, and used parmesan instead of goat cheese. Wonderful with the pork, roast apples, and pecans. Also probably used more like 2 tbsp of chopped rosemary and loved the flavor it gave. What's the point of using 1 tsp of fresh herbs??

I don't get it...where does the apple, maple syrup, ginger fit into the recipe???
Chris
Where are the apples, ginger and pecans here?

Answering the question about nuts and apples and syrup: this polenta is recommended as a side dish for a pork dish which uses those added ingredients.

this saved my meal. It was the star of the dinner. My only issue now is to figure out what to do with the leftover.

It took me a while to figure out where the extra ingredients are used. Click on the link to the pork chops recipe listed in the introduction. This is where the apples, candied ginger, pecans and maple syrup are used with the chops and the polenta is served with it.

Found it! For those of us confused by the maple syrup, apples and ginger reference... these ingredients are part of the maple glazed pork chop recipe in the same paragraph in Sam’s newsletter. I am going to try some of those ingredients with the polenta though. Just for fun.
Bob B.
The maple syrup, candied ginger, pecans and apples go with the pork chops, not the polenta.

Good Lord. The apples, candied ginger, etc. are in the recipe for pork chops that is recommended as an accompaniment. You can find the recipe on the Times cooking website.
