I had a nice little surprise when I opened my email today. My friend at Hilton had sent me the original recipe for DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookies!

If you have stayed at a Hilton DoubleTree Hotel, you probably already know about the delicious, warm chocolate chip cookie that are offered to guests upon arrival. Some would say they are the best chocolate chip cookies ever!

DoubleTree cookies actually have a fan following and have been around for a long time.

More than 30 million cookies are enjoyed each year and this recipe was actually the first food to bebaked in orbit during experiments aboard the International Space Station.

Many people have tried to create copycat recipes for DoubleTree Hotel Chocolate Chip Cookies, but only now has Hilton released the official version to create at home.

Butter: For this chocolate chip cookie recipe, you can use salted butter or unsalted butter. Just make sure that the butter has softened to room temperature.

White Sugar: Use white granulated sugar.

Light Brown Sugar: This helps add flavor to the cookie dough.

Large Eggs: Large eggs work best in this recipe.

How to Make DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookies

[1] Cream butter, sugar and brown sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes.

[2] Add eggs, vanilla and lemon juice, blending with mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, then medium speed for about 2 minutes, or until light and fluffy, scraping down bowl.

[3] With mixer on low speed, add flour, oats, baking soda, salt and cinnamon, blending for about 45 seconds. Don’t overmix.

[4] Remove bowl from mixer and stir in chocolate chips and walnuts or use a dough hook attachment.

[5] Portion dough with a cookie scoop (about 3 tablespoons) and place the cookie dough balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper about 2 inches apart.

[6] Preheat oven to 300°F. Bake for 20 to 23 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and center is still soft.

How to Freeze this Cookie Dough

This recipe for DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookies makes about 26 cookies if you use about 3 tablespoons of dough per cookie.

That is a lot of cookies for my family of 5. The great news is that you can make this cookie dough ahead of time, freeze the dough and have freshly baked cookies whenever you want!

  • Prepare the cookie dough as directed.
  • Use a cookie scoop to drop balls of dough onto a plate or small baking sheet lined with parchment paper that will fit into your freezer.
  • Freeze the cookie dough for about two hours, then place in a freezer ziplock bag and store in your freezer until ready to bake.

To bake the cookies from frozen dough:

  • Preheat oven to 300°F and place frozen cookies on parchment paper-lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart.

  • ¾ cup + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 ¼ cups flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch cinnamon

  • 1 3/4 cups chopped walnuts
